HYBRID LENSES

Combining RGP vision with the comfort of a soft lens

As the name alludes to, hybrid lenses are a combination of both soft and rigid lenses. The hybrid lens center sits over the cornea and is made of a rigid gas permeable (RGP) material, while the outer lens “skirt” is made of a soft material and lands on the sclera (white part of the eye). This allows patients to obtain the crisp, clear vision of an RGP while also having the comfort of a soft lenses. These lenses require specific cleaning and care, but can last for up to 6 months before needing to be replaced.
These lenses are great for patients with certain corneal conditions, high prescription, and patients wanting to see both distance and near. While most patients fit in a traditional RGP lens are able to adapt, Hybrid lenses are a great option for patients who aren’t able to achieve the comfort they desire but don’t want to sacrifice the clarity provided by an RGP lens.
