DR. ROXANA HEMMATI

Dr. Roxana Hemmati is the founder and clinic director of the Austin Contact Lens Institute. She began her advanced education at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with honors, and then went on to receive her Doctorate of Optometry from University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO), where she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.

Dr. Hemmati continued her training by completing a highly competitive and selective Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Cornea and Contact Lenses at the Texas Eye Research and Technology Center (TERTC). After completing her fellowship, Dr. Hemmati began her career as an assistant professor at UHCO, where she was involved in both clinical care and a variety of contact lens related research projects; her main research involvement was with the Visual Optics Institute as the lead investigator on a NIH-funded study related to Wavefront-Guided scleral lenses.

Dr. Hemmati went on to complete the Boston Foundation for Sight PROSE Clinical Fellowship and then joined the faculty at the Alkek Eye Center at Baylor College of Medicine as an assistant professor. Centered in the Houston Medical Center, Dr. Hemmati became one of the go-to contact lens referrals for many of the surrounding hospitals, including Texas Children’s Hospital and MD Anderson. This combination of complex medical cases and access to such a great variety of contact lenses gave Dr. Hemmati unique expertise on how to best manage even the most challenging conditions.

After years of working in some of the world’s top institutes, Dr. Hemmati has taken the best of everything she has seen and returned to Austin to establish her practice, the Austin Contact Lens Institute (ACLI) – a concierge care clinic centered around providing superior specialty contact lens care. ACLI's goal is to combine the clinical expertise of these large clinics with the personalized private practice atmosphere.

Dr. Hemmati is Fellowship trained in Cornea and Contact Lenses through TERTC and in PROSE through BostonSight. She is certified in EyeprintPRO and EyefitPRO, WAVE, Corneal Reshaping Technology (CRT), and MiSight myopia management. Dr. Hemmati has lectured and presented at many academic meetings and has been published in a variety of academic journals. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society (SLS) and is a Member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control. She currently holds the role of Public Education Chair-Elect for the SLS. In her free time, Dr. Hemmati enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, and trying out the best of Austin’s food scene.
